The best anatomy quiz apps in 2026

Seven anatomy quiz and flashcard apps compared from App Store listings on October 22, 2026: quiz format, spaced repetition, Latin names, price model, limits.

The best anatomy quiz app depends on the exam you face: for a practical where you must find structures on a body, Anatomy Atlas 3D (free) and Bones of the body quiz you by tapping the structure; for naming from pictures, Anatomist and Kenhub's Daily Anatomy Flashcards are free to start; for written exams, TeachMe Anatomy and Netter's Anatomy Flash Cards add explanations and clinical notes behind a subscription. AnkiMobile ($24.99) is the pick if you build your own decks.

Quick answer

  • Best for practicals, free: Anatomy Atlas 3D (our app). The app names a structure and you tap it on a 3D body, 15 questions by region and system. It has no flashcard decks.
  • Best free picture quiz: Anatomist, with 3,500+ identifications across 24 areas, playable offline.
  • Best free flashcards: Daily Anatomy Flashcards by Kenhub, 500 structures with spaced repetition.

How we picked

We kept apps whose main use is testing yourself on anatomy: quizzes, flashcards or practical-style identification. For each one we read the US App Store listing on October 22, 2026 and compared:

  1. Quiz format: find the structure on a body, name a highlighted structure, multiple choice or flashcards.
  2. Memory tools: spaced repetition, review of missed answers, progress tracking.
  3. Terminology: whether Latin names are listed.
  4. Price model and practical limits: what is free, offline use, last update.

We did not run hands-on tests of the other apps, so this page reports what each developer lists.

Anatomy Atlas 3D (our app)

Anatomy Atlas 3D is a free 3D human anatomy atlas for iPad and iPhone: 2,000 structures, no account, no ads, works offline, English and Latin names (Terminologia Anatomica 2) and a tap-the-structure quiz. In the quiz, you choose a region and the systems you are revising; the app names a structure and you find it on the body. After 15 questions you see your score and the structures to review. Between rounds, you can study the same structures with the muscle cards (action, origin, insertion, innervation) and tap any structure to see its name.

You can try a shorter version first in the free anatomy quiz on this site: one muscle or bone is lit on the body and you pick its name.

  • Suits: students preparing a practical, where finding the structure matters more than reciting it.
  • Limits: no flashcard decks or spaced repetition, no written explanations, no App Store ratings yet. It needs iOS 18 or later on iPad or iPhone (no Android).

Anatomist

A quiz game with more than 3,500 identifications across 24 areas of the body, including ECGs and pathology photos, with an option to compete with other students. Practice works without an internet connection.

  • Suits: students who already know the basics and want fast, varied identification rounds on their phone.
  • Limits: premium versions are listed from $4.99 to $99.99, the higher tiers labeled "No Ads". The last update dates from May 11, 2025.

Daily Anatomy Flashcards (Kenhub)

Kenhub's app teaches 500 key structures (bones, muscles, nerves, vessels and bony landmarks) in a beginner-friendly order, with each structure highlighted in green and spaced repetition built in. It is available in English, German, Portuguese and Spanish.

  • Suits: beginners who want a short daily habit.
  • Limits: 500 structures is a starting set, not a full course. Kenhub's larger quiz bank is part of its paid web platform; see our Kenhub alternatives.

TeachMe Anatomy

The app lists 1,900+ multiple-choice questions with detailed explanations, 2,500+ flashcards with spaced repetition and performance tracking by topic, next to 600+ articles and 750+ 3D models. Quiz questions are available offline.

  • Suits: students facing written exams who want an explanation after each answer.
  • Limits: quizzes and flashcards are part of the premium subscription, from $37 a month to $144.99 a year or $290 for lifetime access.

Bones of the body

A focused trainer for the bones only. "Tap to learn" names a bone and you tap it; "Spin to learn" highlights a bone and you choose its name among look-alikes (trapezium next to trapezoid, for example). Wrong answers come back more often, and names are given in everyday, medical and Latin forms, checked against Terminologia Anatomica.

  • Suits: first-year students learning the skeleton, such as the bones of the hand or the bones of the foot.
  • Limits: bones only. The full version and ad removal are $0.99 purchases each.

Netter's Anatomy Flash Cards

The app version of the Netter flash card deck: full-color Netter illustrations with numbered labels and hidden answers, plus short comments and clinical notes, organized by region and then by bones, muscles, nerves, vessels and viscera. Content works offline after the first download.

  • Suits: medical, dental and nursing students who already use Netter's atlas.
  • Limits: the free download is a sample; the full deck needs a yearly subscription listed at $39.99.

AnkiMobile Flashcards

The iPhone and iPad companion to Anki, the free open-source flashcard program for computers. It schedules reviews with the SM2 or FSRS algorithms, syncs for free across devices and stores images on the device for offline study.

  • Suits: students who make their own cards from lectures and want full control over reviews.
  • Limits: $24.99 up front, and it is a general flashcard tool, so the anatomy cards come from you.

How to choose

  • Your exam is a practical or a "spot test": quiz yourself on a body or images, not on lists. Start with a 3D tap quiz or Anatomist.
  • Your exam is written: pick an app with explanations, like TeachMe Anatomy or Netter's cards.
  • You forget fast: add spaced repetition with Daily Anatomy Flashcards or Anki.
  • Your course is A&P, not anatomy alone: physiology needs questions on processes too; our best anatomy and physiology apps adds physiology question banks and mnemonic videos.
  • You are on a budget: combine two free tools, for example the 3D quiz and a free flashcard app. Our best free anatomy apps page lists what is free.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app to quiz yourself on anatomy?

For practicals, an app that makes you find the structure on a body, like Anatomy Atlas 3D (free) or Bones of the body for the skeleton. For flashcards with spaced repetition, Daily Anatomy Flashcards is free and AnkiMobile is $24.99 once.

Is there a free anatomy quiz app?

Yes. Anatomy Atlas 3D has no in-app purchase at all, and Daily Anatomy Flashcards shows none on its listing. Anatomist and Bones of the body are free to start, with optional purchases.

How do I prepare for an anatomy practical exam?

Practice identifying structures on a model rather than reading names. A tap-the-structure quiz reproduces the exam: the name is given and you must find it. Review the ones you missed, then repeat by region.

Are flashcards good for learning anatomy?

They help you remember names, especially with spaced repetition, but they do not train you to find a structure on a body. Many students combine flashcards with a 3D quiz.

Can I take an anatomy quiz online without an app?

Yes. Our free anatomy quiz runs in your browser with no sign-up: one muscle or bone is highlighted on a 3D body and you pick its name.
