How we picked
A&P is often taught over two semesters (A&P I and II) taken by future nurses, therapists, paramedics, pharmacy and pre-med students. It asks for two different things: where each structure is (anatomy) and how each system works (physiology). We kept iPhone and iPad apps whose listing names anatomy, physiology or both, read each US App Store listing on October 30, 2026, and compared:
- Coverage: anatomy, physiology, or both.
- Format: 3D model, text, videos, flashcards or quiz.
- Price model: free, one-time or subscription, as listed.
- Practical limits: offline use stated or not, minimum iOS version, download size, date of the last update.
We did not run hands-on tests of the other apps, so this page reports what each developer lists.

Visible Body Suite
Visible Body's whole library in one subscription, combining its Human Anatomy Atlas, Anatomy & Physiology, Physiology & Pathology, Muscles & Kinesiology and Visible Biology apps. The listing describes dissectible male and female 3D models, microanatomy and cross sections, interactive physiology lessons, a beating 3D heart you can follow on an ECG, animations of gas exchange, pulmonary ventilation, fluid balance and peristalsis, histology slides, 3D flashcards and dissection or multiple-choice quizzes. It works on phone, tablet and computer, on one device at a time with the student plan.
- Suits: students who want one app for both semesters, structure and function side by side.
- Limits: the content needs the subscription: $34.99 a year for students on Visible Body's plans page (the App Store lists the Student Subscription at $34.99 and a Professional one at $199.99). A 1.9 GB download, iOS 15.
Anatomy Atlas 3D (our app)
Anatomy Atlas 3D is a free 3D human anatomy atlas for iPad and iPhone: 2,000 structures, no account, no ads, works offline, English and Latin names (Terminologia Anatomica 2) and a tap-the-structure quiz. For A&P, the organ explorer opens the heart, lungs, kidneys and bladder and eight other organs on their own, part by part, and six layers go from the superficial muscles to the skeleton.

- Suits: students who need to see where things are and test themselves on it, for free, next to their A&P textbook. The quiz names a structure and you find it on the body, by region and system.
- Limits: anatomy only: no physiology lessons, animations, histology or videos. It works offline once the female body has downloaded (a one-time download the first time you open it). No App Store ratings yet, a 376 MB download, and it needs iOS 18 or later on iPad or iPhone (no Android, no web 3D).
TeachMe Physiology: Human Body
A physiology reference by TeachMeSeries, who also publish TeachMe Anatomy: over 200 articles with color illustrations and clinical notes, and a bank of 900+ multiple-choice questions with explanations. It covers biochemistry, histology, and the cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, reproductive, immune, blood and nervous systems, and stores everything offline.
- Suits: students who learn physiology by reading and want exam-style questions on the phone.
- Limits: premium content and question bank features need a Pro subscription ($20 a month, $36 a quarter, $84 a year or $169 lifetime as listed). No 3D model. A 70 MB download, iOS 15.6.
Human Anatomy Atlas 2027 (Visible Body)
A gross anatomy atlas sold once: full female and male 3D models next to cadaver and diagnostic images, organs at several levels (lungs down to the alveoli, kidneys down to the nephrons), muscle and bone models you can move, dissection in AR and in cross sections, and 3D dissection quizzes.
- Suits: students who prefer paying $24.99 once for the anatomy half of the course.
- Limits: the base app includes select microanatomy models and animations; the physiology animations the listing mentions are in-app purchases (advanced animations $9.99 and patient education animations $19.99, as listed). A 1.3 GB download, iOS 15. See also Visible Body alternatives.
Picmonic Anatomy & Physiology
Short picture-mnemonic videos with quiz questions and a daily quiz using spaced repetition. The listing names pre-health and allied health programs (physical and occupational therapy, paramedic, pharmacy technician) and courses from anatomy and physiology to biology, chemistry and medical terminology.
- Suits: students who remember facts better as images and stories, and who face several science courses at once.
- Limits: free access to the most popular content lasts 5 days; then a Premium subscription (monthly, semester or annual; the store lists prices from $11.99 to $79.99). No 3D model. A 120 MB download, iOS 17.5.
Daily Anatomy Flashcards (Kenhub)
A free flashcard trainer for the 500 most important anatomical structures, with spaced repetition and each structure highlighted on the image.
- Suits: a short daily review of names and locations, next to an atlas.
- Limits: flashcards of anatomical structures only: no 3D model and no physiology lessons, as listed. A 105 MB download, iOS 16.4.
Anatomy and Physiology Quiz. (DH3 Games)
A trivia game with hundreds of questions on organs, bones and body systems, in 50 levels of 10 questions; you need six right answers to open the next level. It plays offline.
- Suits: a light review between study sessions, alone or with friends.
- Limits: general-knowledge questions, not a course: the listing names no textbook or exam. In-app purchases include "Remove Ads" ($1.99) and a Premium Mode ($2.99 or $3.99). A 79 MB download, iOS 15.
How to choose
- You want one app for both semesters: Visible Body Suite.
- You want to pay nothing: Anatomy Atlas 3D for the anatomy, whatever TeachMe Physiology opens without a subscription for physiology, and the free OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology 2e college textbook, free to read online. Our free anatomy quiz runs in the browser.
- You want to pay once: Human Anatomy Atlas 2027 at $24.99, with Anatomy Atlas 3D as a free second atlas on your phone.
- Your lab exam asks you to find structures: a 3D model with a quiz (Visible Body or Anatomy Atlas 3D) trains that better than text. See our best anatomy quiz apps. If the lab covers the musculoskeletal system, compare the best apps to learn muscles and bones.
- You are a nursing student: our best anatomy apps for nursing students adds video courses with NCLEX-style questions.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best app for anatomy and physiology?
Visible Body Suite, if you can pay $34.99 a year: it is the only app on this list that includes 3D anatomy, physiology animations and quizzes without add-ons. For free, Anatomy Atlas 3D covers 3D anatomy; TeachMe Physiology is a free download for physiology reading and questions, with premium content by subscription.
What anatomy app should I use to study for my A&P exam?
For a lab practical, an app with a 3D model and a quiz: Visible Body Suite or Human Anatomy Atlas 2027 (paid), or Anatomy Atlas 3D (free), whose quiz names a structure and you tap it on the body. For a written exam on physiology, TeachMe Physiology's multiple-choice questions or Picmonic's mnemonic videos.
Is there a free anatomy and physiology app?
Anatomy Atlas 3D is free with no in-app purchase but covers anatomy only. TeachMe Physiology and Visible Body Suite are free downloads whose full content is paid. Daily Anatomy Flashcards is free for names and locations, and the OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology 2e textbook is free to read online.
Do I need a 3D app for A&P?
Not to pass the course, but it helps with the anatomy half: a 3D model shows how structures sit in depth, which flat diagrams do not. Physiology is about processes, so animations or clear text with questions matter more there than a model.
Is there an A&P app for iPad?
All seven apps here run on iPad. On a large screen, Anatomy Atlas 3D shows a side panel next to the model; see our best anatomy apps for iPad.
