Six anatomy and physiology apps for nursing students compared from App Store listings, October 22, 2026: Visible Body, Osmosis, Lecturio, Kenhub, free atlas.

For nursing students, Visible Body Suite ($34.99 a year for students) is the most complete anatomy and physiology app on this list, Anatomy Learning ($16.99 once) is a 3D atlas that names nursing among its audiences, and Anatomy Atlas 3D and Kenhub's Daily Anatomy Flashcards are free. If your goal is the NCLEX rather than the A&P lab, Osmosis Nursing and Lecturio Nursing teach physiology in videos with exam-style questions, on a subscription.

Quick answer

  • Best for an A&P course: Visible Body Suite. 3D anatomy, physiology animations, quizzes and flashcards on phone, tablet and the web, $34.99 a year for students.
  • Best free 3D atlas: Anatomy Atlas 3D (our app). 2,000 structures with English and Latin names and a quiz, no account, no ads. Anatomy only: no physiology lessons.
  • Best for NCLEX prep: Osmosis Nursing Exam Prep, with 1,100+ nursing videos and 4,500+ NCLEX-RN style questions after a 7-day free trial.

How we picked

Nursing students usually meet anatomy in an anatomy and physiology (A&P) course, then need it again for exams and clinical work. We kept iPhone and iPad apps that list anatomy or physiology content and suit nursing students, read each US App Store listing on October 22, 2026, and compared:

  1. Coverage: anatomy only, or anatomy with physiology.
  2. Format: 3D models, videos, flashcards, exam-style questions.
  3. Price model: free, one-time or subscription, as listed.
  4. Practical limits: minimum iOS version, offline use, last update.

We did not run hands-on tests of the other apps, so this page reports what each developer lists.

Visible Body Suite

Visible Body's whole library in one subscription: dissectible male and female 3D models, microanatomy, physiology lessons and animations (gas exchange, fluid balance, muscle contraction, among others), histology slides, 3D flashcards and dissection or multiple-choice quizzes. It covers every body system from cells and tissues to the reproductive system.

  • Suits: nursing students in an A&P course who want structure and function in the same app, on mobile and the web.
  • Limits: a yearly subscription ($34.99 for students, as listed by Visible Body) and a 1.9 GB download. If you only need the anatomy, Visible Body's Human Anatomy Atlas 2027 is $24.99 once. If your instructor uses Visible Body Courseware, wait for their invite link. See also our Visible Body alternatives.

Anatomy Learning - 3D Atlas

A 3D atlas whose listing names students of medicine, nursing, physiotherapy and dentistry. It has more than 6,000 labeled points, layer-by-layer dissection, muscle and joint animations, cross sections and over 500 quizzes, offline and in ten languages.

  • Suits: students who want a detailed atlas without a subscription, or who study in a language other than English.
  • Limits: the full content needs the $16.99 Definitive Edition, and its listing does not mention physiology lessons beyond the animations.

Anatomy Atlas 3D (our app)

Anatomy Atlas 3D is a free 3D human anatomy atlas for iPad and iPhone: 2,000 structures, no account, no ads, works offline, English and Latin names (Terminologia Anatomica 2) and a tap-the-structure quiz. You can open the heart, the lungs or the kidneys and bladder part by part in the organ explorer, peel six layers, cut cross sections and switch between male and female bodies. Muscles open a card with action, origin, insertion and innervation.

  • Suits: nursing students who need to see where things are, for free, alongside their A&P textbook. The quiz asks you to find 15 structures by region and system.
  • Limits: anatomy only, with no physiology, courses, videos or flashcard decks. No App Store ratings yet, and it needs iOS 18 or later on iPad or iPhone (no Android, no web 3D).

Daily Anatomy Flashcards (Kenhub)

A free flashcard trainer for healthcare students, covering the 500 most important structures from the basics up, with spaced repetition. Each structure is highlighted in full on the image.

  • Suits: beginners who want a short daily review on their phone.
  • Limits: a starting set of names, not a course; no physiology.

Osmosis - Nursing Exam Prep

Short illustrated videos and exam questions for nursing school: 1,100+ nursing videos, 4,500+ NCLEX-RN and 900+ NCLEX-PN style questions, customizable quizzes and printable medication tables, from physiology and pathology to pharmacology. Videos can be downloaded for offline study, and the account syncs with the web.

  • Suits: students who learn physiology best from videos and are preparing for NCLEX or course exams.
  • Limits: after the 7-day free trial it is a subscription; the nursing plans are listed at $29 a month, $69 for 3 months, $79 for 6 months and $139 a year. It has no 3D atlas.

Lecturio Nursing

A nursing video library of 2,000+ videos (160+ hours) covering topics from anatomy and physiology to med-surg, pharmacology and clinical skills, with practice questions and spaced-repetition recall quizzes.

  • Suits: students who want lectures for the whole program, not only A&P.
  • Limits: paid plans are subscriptions: Basic from $24.99 a month to $191.99 for 12 months, Premium from $49.99 a month to $239.99 for 12 months, as listed. No 3D atlas.

How to choose

  • You are in A&P now: check what your instructor uses first. Then pick a 3D app for structures (Visible Body Suite, Anatomy Learning or a free atlas) and practice with a quiz.
  • You need physiology explained: Visible Body Suite for animations, Osmosis or Lecturio for videos.
  • You are moving towards physical therapy or sports science: muscles, origins and insertions matter most; see our best anatomy apps for physiotherapy students.
  • You are preparing for the NCLEX: a question bank with explanations (Osmosis or Lecturio) matters more than a 3D atlas.
  • You are on a budget: start with the free options and our free anatomy quiz. Our best free anatomy apps page separates truly free apps from free downloads.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best anatomy app for nursing students?

For an A&P course, Visible Body Suite is the most complete app here, at $34.99 a year for students. For a free 3D atlas, Anatomy Atlas 3D has no in-app purchase. For NCLEX preparation, Osmosis and Lecturio add videos and exam-style questions.

Is there a free anatomy and physiology app for nursing students?

For anatomy, yes: Anatomy Atlas 3D and Kenhub's Daily Anatomy Flashcards show no in-app purchases. For physiology, the apps on this list that teach it (Visible Body Suite, Osmosis and Lecturio) are subscriptions.

Is Visible Body good for nursing students?

VB Suite covers anatomy and physiology together, with animations and quizzes, and some instructors use Visible Body Courseware in class. The student subscription is listed at $34.99 a year.

Do nursing students need to learn Latin anatomy terms?

Ask your instructor which names your exams use. Anatomy Atlas 3D shows both the English and the Latin name of each structure, so you can learn either.

What app helps with an anatomy practical in nursing school?

One that makes you find structures on a body. A tap-the-structure quiz, like the one in Anatomy Atlas 3D, is closer to a practical than a list of names. More options in our best anatomy quiz apps.
